Choosing the right senior living community requires careful research and planning. In addition to cost, you’ll want to consider the campus and its location, the size and layout of the apartments, the staff, the availability of services and amenities, and the food and dining options. You’ll also want to understand what it’s truly like to live in the community.
If you’re contemplating a move to Eddy Hawthorne Ridge, and you’re wondering what daily life is really like, read on to hear from residents who have made our East Greenbush senior living community their home.
Good Friends and Good Food
Joyce moved to Eddy Hawthorne Ridge two years ago and she couldn’t be happier. “The best thing about living here is the friendships I’ve made,” says Joyce. “I’m very social, and I like that I’m able to have dinner with my friends instead of eating alone.”
In fact, the social aspect of independent senior living communities is a big draw for seniors, who are more likely to experience loneliness, isolation and depression when living at home. At Eddy Hawthorne Ridge, seniors are able to make new friends, something that can be hard to do at this stage of life.
If friends are Joyce’s favorite thing about Eddy Hawthorne Ridge, the food is a close second. “I love that I don’t have to cook anymore,” laughs Joyce, who appreciates the restaurant-style meals. “The food is always great.”
Joyce, who lives in a pet-friendly senior apartment with her 3-month old puppy Ginger Spice, also raves about the staff. “They are simply wonderful,” she adds. And we feel the same way about Joyce.
Everything You Need is Right Here
According to Barbara and Frank S., “Eddy Hawthorne Ridge deserves five stars. The whole place is just immaculate.” For this active couple, the many amenities and services are the best part of living in the East Greenbush senior living community.
“Everything you need is right here,” the couple explains, referring to the on-site fitness center, dining room, beauty salon, cyber café, computer room and more. “Plus, the staff provides housekeeping services, maintenance, transportation and classes galore!”
Barbara and Frank also appreciate the fact that they don’t have to cook if they don’t want to. “We have a first-rate chef and staff,” they add. “The meals are very good, as is the selection.”
A Senior Apartment, Close to All
Leo and Diane K. chose Eddy Hawthorne Ridge mainly because of its location close to Chatham, Kinderhook & Rensselaer, but they’ve come to love living here for a number of reasons.
“It’s in the center of our town, so we’re near our friends, shopping places, church, community library and the YMCA,” the couple explains. However, they quickly realized that their new apartment was close to many services and amenities, as well.
“Our apartment is in a building where we have many friends, a dining room within 250 feet, a Postal Service station within 200 feet, people and groups to provide entertainment, and well-kept grounds,” adds Leo and Diane. “Plus, 24-hour security, plenty of parking, and our cars are cleaned off promptly when it snows.”
While the pair have many friends outside of Eddy Hawthorne Ridge, Leo and Diane have come to consider their fellow residents like family and friends, and they enjoy spending time with them. “The lounge, cafe, covered patio, gazebo and social rooms provide us with areas to mingle and socialize with our neighbors. And we take lots of trips to go places or to dine out.”
